Biography

Dr Mohamed Azeem Latib was born and raised in South Africa, where he also completed his early medical training. He later advanced his clinical and professional career internationally. He now resides in New York City, where he serves as the Section Head and Director of Interventional Cardiology and the Director of Structural Heart Interventions at the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Heart & Vascular Care. His career has spanned multiple countries and premier cardiovascular institutions.

 

Academic History

Dr Latib earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB BCh) from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1995. He completed a fellowship with the College of Physicians of South Africa in 2002 and received his certificate in cardiology in 2005.

He pursued advanced subspecialty training in Europe, completing a Master’s degree in Interventional Cardiology at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute and University Vita-Salute in Milan, Italy, in 2008. In 2018, he expanded his expertise further with a certificate of advanced studies in aortic structural interventions from the University of Zurich.

 

Career Overview

Dr Latib is internationally recognized as a leading interventional cardiologist specializing in complex coronary interventions and structural heart disease. His clinical expertise includes transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), MitraClip procedures, and innovative minimally invasive therapies for mitral and tricuspid valve disease.

He is actively involved in advancing new technologies and is currently contributing to the development of the NeoChord NeXuS Transcatheter Mitral Chordal Repair Device and procedure.

Dr Latib has published more than 550 peer-reviewed journal articles. He serves on the editorial boards of multiple leading cardiology journals, including Cardiac Interventions Today, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Cardiovascular Interventions, and Cardiovascular Revascularization Medicine. He is also a reviewer for numerous journals and a regular faculty member at major international conferences.

He is an active member of several professional societies, including the American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology.
