Biography

Dr Victoria Delgado is a board-certified cardiologist specialising in cardiovascular imaging and currently based in Leiden, the Netherlands. She works at Leiden University Medical Center, where she combines clinical practice with academic research and teaching. Over the past decade, she has become internationally recognised for her contributions to cardiovascular imaging and heart failure research.

Academic History

Dr Delgado completed her medical training and cardiology specialisation with a strong focus on cardiovascular imaging. She pursued advanced training in multimodality cardiac imaging, developing expertise across echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and cardiac computed tomography.

She is currently an Assistant Professor of Cardiology at Leiden University Medical Center, where she is actively involved in mentoring medical students, residents and fellows, while leading research initiatives in cardiac imaging and mechanics.

Career Overview

For more than 13 years, Dr Delgado has been actively engaged in clinical and translational research focused on cardiac mechanics and the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of heart failure. Her work has placed particular emphasis on valvular heart disease and coronary artery disease, with the goal of improving diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes through advanced imaging techniques.

Dr Delgado has played a significant role in shaping European cardiovascular practice through her extensive service within the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). She has served as a board member of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, acting as councillor and Chair of Scientific Documents. She has also been a task force member for ESC clinical practice guidelines, a member of the ESC Guidelines Committee and Congress Programme Committee, and is currently a member of the ESC Board.

In addition to her society leadership roles, Dr Delgado has made major editorial contributions to cardiovascular medicine. She serves as an Associate Editor of Circulation and the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, reflecting her standing as a leading authority in cardiovascular imaging research.

Her academic output includes numerous peer-reviewed publications focusing on imaging-based risk stratification, cardiac mechanics and heart failure across a broad spectrum of cardiac diseases.
